Back in September of 1976, The Land began appearing in mailboxes throughout southern Minnesota. To show what comes around goes around, the headline story on the first edition of The Land was about the current drought conditions and its impact on area farmers.

My farmer tells me it’s nigh impossible to chase pigs to where you want them to go; and I suspect commanding rabbits comes with its own challenges.

This snowy weather has provided ample time to get out my Agriculture Yearbook 1923 published by the United States Department of Agriculture. 

Christmas is a time of joy and merriment. But the Christmas which keeps surfacing to my mind this year was one that was not especially cheery. 

The displays depict Sioux County men and women who have served in the military — beginning with the Civil War.

As his father did, Ron took the time to teach his children and grandchildren the fundamentals of hunting. There is a certain bonding which takes place sitting around the campfire in the great outdoors. 

Yes, I have to chuckle here a bit. This shopping from home is nothing new under the sun. 

While the heat affects men during the threshing season, it also affected the women and children. It has been my wish to hear their story. 

This Miniature Australian Shepherd has already become part of the family.

Summer days are filled with gardening, chores, building maintenance and taking care of livestock and crops. But that’s not all … the calendar is filling up with other things to do.
