• Mail: The Mankato and North Mankato post offices and the Madison East branch will be closed Thursday in observance of New Year's Day. Residential mail will not be delivered. Service windows will be closed and mail will not be sorted to lock boxes.

• Free Press delivery: Mail subscribers will receive the Thursday edition of The Free Press on Friday, along with Friday’s edition. The newspaper office will be closed Thursday; however, customer service representatives will answer calls about newspaper delivery between 5:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

• Banking: Most financial institutions will be closed Thursday.

• Buses: Greater Mankato Transit bus service will not be available Thursday.

• Emergency food: ECHO Food Shelf will be closed Thursday.

• Government: State, city, county and federal offices will be closed Thursday.

• Garbage: Mankato residents on Thursday's schedule will have their garbage collected Friday; those on Friday's schedule will have their garbage collected Saturday. Recycling for Mankato residents has changed to an every other week schedule. Visit www.mankato-mn.gov to determine your pick up schedule. North Mankato residents on Thursday's schedule will have their garbage collected on Friday; those of Friday's schedule will have their garbage collected Saturday. Recycling for North Mankato residents has changed to every other week schedule. Residents who would have their garbage collected on Thursday will need to use the new bins when they put garbage out of Friday.

• Medical facilities: Mayo Health System Urgent Care in Mankato will be closed Thursday. Mankato Clinic Express will be open until 6 p.m. Thursday, all other clinic locations will be closed.

• Shopping: Customers should check with merchants to find out individual store’s holiday hours.

• Grocery stores: Mankato’s Hy-Vee Food stores and Cub Foods stores will be open usual hours Thursday. Mankato’s Aldi store will be closed Thursday.

• Libraries: Blue Earth County Library and North Mankato’s Taylor Library will be closed Thursday.

• Parking: Timed public parking in Mankato will not be enforced Thursday.

• Schools: Mankato Area Public School students are on holiday break.
