It was only a matter of time: Earlier this month, students, staff and community members voted to rename Webster Magnet Elementary in St. Paul the "Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary."
The St. Paul school board recently made that move official on a 5-1 vote; the lone dissenting vote from the lone Republican on the board.
No disrespect intended to the Obamas, I wish them well. For the sake of our country I pray to God that Barack succeeds as president. But renaming our schools barely 100 days into his presidency is a bit premature.
I'm sure there will be more schools and other institutions named in his honor, but let's make him prove his worth. It's just a matter of time.
