The Yield: Connecting with devoted readers at book signings

Originally published in the October 2, 2009, print edition.

“God has blessed us in our travels to farm shows this summer and fall,” Stan said. “I can’t believe it is fall already,” I replied.

As we pulled our trailer with the 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile across the stubble field to the black top road we reminisced about all the people who came to greet us, and have their book signed.

We started with the New Ulm Auto Fest, then to Vernon Center for their July 4 celebration. During Giant Days in Blue Earth, we were at the Faribault County Fairgrounds for the Car Show. At Winnebago Moto Fest, we went to Garden Court Apartments and the Presbyterian Church Quilt Show. There were signings at each place. The Blue Earth County Fair was next on our agenda, and we enjoyed visiting with the folks in the Garden City area.

Next we attended Amboy Arts ‘n’ More Festival. At Pat and Dan’s Back in Time Bed and Breakfast we visited with readers of The Land, and signed “The Yield” books. It was a shaded and pleasant place to have a signing, and there was also much interest in our parade car. The next morning we were at Kiester for Farming of Yesteryear where, again, we were greeted warmly.

As we were on our way back home from Kiester, we discussed how that at each festival we attended, weather was not a deterrent. The only show of the summer where rain prevented our attendance was at Butterfield. It poured rain on our way there, so we had to turn around and return our car to its dry storage area. It seemed to us that The Lord must have held back the rain, because often as we started out it was cloudy, and rain was in the forecast.

On Oct. 24 we will be at the Agribition Center on the fairgrounds in Hutchinson for the Minnesota State Poultry Show. Books will not be available for sale, but you can order or purchase books online at

bookhousefulfillment.com

, by phone at (800) 901-3480, and at the Good News Bookstore in Fairmont and The Lighthouse Bookstore in Mankato.

We will be at the show to sign books from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Hope to see you there — bring your books.

Now you can have real love for everyone because your souls have been cleansed from selfishness and hatred when you trusted Christ to save you; see to it that you really love each other warmly, with all your hearts. 1 Peter 1:22

I can’t wait to visit; it’s been a long time.
