Farmers teaching ag, food message to young students

How often in “farm talk” about food production do you hear that “nobody knows, or seems to care, where their food comes from.” That glaring lack of knowledge is even more evident among children. Microwave packages, fast-food restaurants and specially concocted “made for TV viewing” foods from the local grocery store have become the “food source” background for most youngsters.

As last year’s outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the United Kingdom once again demonstrated, foreign animal disease outbreaks do have costly affects on producers’ livelihoods, consumer confidence and a country’s ability to keep markets open.

Bullying in schools has been going on since the beginning of schools, but it was mostly during the confines of the school day. Nowadays, since we are connected by technology 24/7, students can be bullied via electronic devices any time of day.

Farm and Food File: Clout for a single food agency

A century later, consumers, food makers, farmers and ranchers will likely face a major overhaul of Roosevelt’s landmark handiwork.
