Minneapolis Grain Exchange Gives back a share in its history
Celebrating National Library Week, April 15-21
MINNEAPOLIS — To celebrate National Library Week (April 15-21) and the 125th Anniversary of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, the members and staff of the MGEX plan to donate copies of the recently published book, "The Grain Merchants: An Illustrated History of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange" to libraries throughout the Upper Midwest. "The Grain Merchants", published by the Afton Historical Society Press, is a 216-page book filled with photographs and stories that chronicle the history of the MGEX.
The donation of "The Grain Merchants" is possible due to the outpouring of support for the MGEX 125th Anniversary History Project. The MGEX received monetary contributions from many individuals and corporate institutions. In addition to the book, a copy of the newly released MGEX DVD will be donated to the selected libraries.
“Throughout our organization’s history, the members of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange have found ways to give back to the community. From William Dunwoody and the Dunwoody Institute to John Pillsbury and the University of Minnesota, the pioneer businessmen of the MGEX knew the importance of education and community,” said MGEX President and CEO, Mark Bagan. “With the celebration of our 125th Anniversary, it is fitting to continue giving back to the regional community.”
"The Grain Merchants" has also been nominated as one of Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year finalists. Winners will be announced June 1.
